Angry Customers: We Got Burned From Jessica Alba's Honest Company Sunscreen
People Are Angry With Jessica Alba's Honest Sunscreen
Good and bad news for eco beauty icon Jessica Alba this week. As her company Honest celebrated the launch of organic sanitary protection ('healthy and safe' tampons and pads), it came under criticism for its SPF failing to deliver as people posted pictures of nasty sunburn while wearing it. Eek!
The Honest Sunscreen Lotion is a natural mineral-based SPF 30, free from potentially toxic ingredients, which clearly sounds appealing – but many customers took to Twitter claiming it doesn't work. Posts of painful-looking sunburn like this were provided as 'proof':
I got sunburnt and I was outside with organic honest company sunscreen on for less than an hour 😒— Fern (@Fernbantu) July 13, 2015
The trouble is, creating a stable natural sunscreen is very hard to do – so perhaps Honest were too ambitious in their SPF of 30. Synthetic chemical-free it may be, but if it hasn't got you covered it's possibly unsafe in many other ways. Let's hope her sanitary line made with organic cotton is more successful – this one we'reveryinterested in.
She told our sister mag Cosmopolitan US, "the products are going in and around the most vulnerable part of a woman's body. I wanted to give people a real, viable alternative, but something that's also good for the planet and good for her." Strong work!
Also in the pipeline is the Honest Beauty line of makeup including color cosmetics which is also challenging to make 'nasties'- free. We'll keep high hopes.
