What is a conscious diet, or is it worth it to diets?
How is conscious nutrition different from intuitive?
As a lover of food and an ardent opponent of diets, I realized that eating restrictions would lead to nothing. Because sooner or later I will hire everything I have limited myself, and I will add from above. So, the only way out is to change the approach in food from a quantitative to a qualitative one.
But which power system to choose? There is such an abundance of information around that you don’t know from which end to start studying it. Only a dozen types of vegetarianism. And how many scientifically proven methods, each of which contradicts the previous one! Some say that squirrels are a panacea that preserves health and harmony, others write is evil. Some advise to cook everything in melted butter, others provide convincing evidence about the dangers of fats. The only way out is not to drown in this information ocean - study different sources, doubt everything and listen only to yourself, your desires and feelings.Perhaps this is the essence of intuitive power, when the menu is made up of products that are suitable for you, the characteristics of your body and lifestyle.
This does not mean that you have to give free rein to desires and sweep away all the hamburgers, chips and cakes on your way. If it seems to you that your body wants only such food, then you have not yet learned to listen to yourself and recognize the signals of the body. I already touched on this topic in the article "Why do we seize emotions". Intuitive nutrition is based on the desire to eat something in order to get some feeling - calm down, cheer up, feel not so unhappy. Conscious food allows you to analyze these desires and there is only what is really needed, and not just want. The process of awareness - the highest pilotage of any practice of self-improvement. Research and understanding of yourself is slow, so the sooner you start, the sooner you will see the result.
Basic principles of conscious nutrition
After reading a few descriptions of “healthy food” systems with an impressive base of convincing arguments, I understood the following. Many of them contradict each other in the recommendations, but clearly agree on what should be excluded from the diet.And there is no mystery here, because we all know very well about the dangers of convenience foods, foods high in sugar and salt, fast food and junk food. The same applies to heavy homemade food, generously flavored with ketchup and mayonnaise. In my family, it is customary to feed "for slaughter": tasty, dense, satisfying and dessert from above. Therefore, often after a meal, the household without power crawls on the sofas and armchairs, unable to even talk. What to do with it?
Refusal from diets.I learned through experience that losing weight on diets is so insignificant that it is absolutely not worth all the effort and suffering. In my case, food restriction is a constant control, fear and stress, exhausting waiting for a result and disappointment from its absence. I just can not focus on the awareness of what I eat, because my mind is busy longing for those products that can not be. Diets create the illusion of rapid weight loss, during which even those rudiments of conscious nutrition that could be lost are lost. Diet is appropriate only if you have developed and prescribed it by a doctor within a specific disease. In an effort to gain harmony and pleasure from his body, unauthorized eating restrictions are absolutely useless and even harmful.
Do not suppress hunger.Eat at any time, but exactly as much as your body needs at the moment. If you delay food intake, increasing hunger, then there can be no question of any conscious nutrition. After all, you hear, but do not want to listen to your body and refuse him when he needs it. Elementary recognition of hunger and thirst, as well as their timely and proportionate quenching is the basis of conscious nutrition and trusting relationships with your body. Over time, I switched to a six-meal meal, because the rhythm of life and the characteristics of work require a certain portion of carbohydrates every one and a half to two hours. And there is no point in limiting myself in this energy, because otherwise in the evening I will tear myself away and sweep from the refrigerator everything that my greedy little hands reach out to.
Allow yourself to eat.You think that you are in control of the situation, but actually the refusal to eat turns into an obsessive subconscious craving, generously flavored with a sense of guilt and self-loathing due to weak will power. Do not look at food as an enemy who is trying to sabotage you to breakdown and overeating. In conscious and intuitive nutrition, there are no boundaries except those that you establish on your own feelings.Therefore, it is worth to put aside the patterns of a low-carb diet and a range of 500–700–1000 calories.
Feel satisfaction.Remember the feeling when the stomach is already full (satisfied), and the brain still does not mind eating anything else (did not get enough pleasure)? This conflict is precisely what makes it possible to avoid a conscious approach to nutrition. In the Middle East and Asian countries, its foundations are laid from childhood. If you remember how the tables are laid, you will notice that there are many plates, and the portions are small. A generous generous treat, but at the same time eating exactly until the moment when the food brings pleasure. After all, as soon as there comes a feeling of fullness, the food loses its charm. It is important to learn to listen to your body in order to understand when you are already full and you feel comfortable in this satiety.
Methods of conscious nutrition
And now let's talk not only about theory, but also about practice. Go for intuitive nutrition was not so simple, because the mind habitually threw up the desire, which is so easy to realize through food, and not through real situations that bring satisfaction. Why solve a problem when you can eat a sweet and stop worrying about difficulties? Why forgive a grievance,when can you eat enough and stop feeling anything at all in an attempt to digest a hearty dinner? Conscious nutrition - hard work. But it can be facilitated.
Food Diary.If you like to count calories and, in principle, have an analytical mindset, then this method is for you. Its essence is to systematically record what you ate, when and what sensations were from this meal. A couple of weeks of such notes will help to analyze at what time of the day your metabolism is especially active, how many hours before sleeping, the food is digested slowly, after what foods you are drawn to a sweet, and after which you want to drink. The power diary is quite a boring and monotonous exercise, but it is the most detailed method of collecting data for switching to a conscious diet.
Vegetarianism and raw foods.This option of conscious nutrition turned out to be the most comfortable for me. Almost all my friends do not eat meat, and, being in their company, I also do not eat meat. Because it is easy for me to find a tasty dish in a vegetarian cafe or with pleasure to be treated to homemade food from a friend at a party. At first it was loyalty to the form of food chosen by close ones, then I simply got into the taste, trying new food and ways to cook it.Even without ethical motivation and animal care, the exclusion of meat from the diet provides an amazing cleansing of the mind and body. Even a short-term vegetable diet helps to quickly feel the real taste of foods, learn not to confuse hunger and thirst, consciously understand the desires to eat a particular product.
Fasting and fasting days.In my opinion, this is the most effective way to analyze your eating habits and dependence on food. The fewer foods we eat, the easier it is to focus on the needs, because the tastes, aromas and aftertaste of food eaten do not interfere with desires. Even a short-term fasting helps to put thoughts in order, realize the real hunger and learn to satisfy it with the amount of food that is really necessary (you don’t eat too much on an empty stomach). In this respect, fasting days are a great help. For many millennia, spiritual people have been practicing various forms of abstinence in food: Lent and Holy Week in Christianity, Ramadan in Islam, Ekadashi in Vaishnavism. To some people, fasting on water and on the water is especially easy in the context of attributing themselves to some kind of religious tradition.
Detox and cleansing.By this method, I am very careful. Some time ago, the weekly cleansing program on vegetable and fruit juices was popular, but, unfortunately, due to the high acidity, it is not for everyone. Few people today can boast a healthy digestive system to eat only juices without heartburn and bowel discomfort. But still cleansing fasting days are useful, especially those that allow you to get rid of stagnant fluids and fix the chair. This can be any short-term mono-diet with a product that suits you - on bio-yogurt, green salads, oatmeal, and muesli. For example, I am very well cleansed by any smoothies. Staying some time on liquid food relieves weight, sluggish fatigue, visibly tones and makes digestion work smoothly, like a Kremlin clock.
Awareness through respect
Some features will not be able to change and adjust. For example, genetics and a certain type of figure. No one can fit in shoes three sizes smaller. If you naturally have a small stature and a stocky figure, you will never become a leggy model.At best, you get a skinny little man, but do you want it? Awareness is acceptance, and acceptance of oneself and one's characteristics is impossible without respect. Love and respect yourself regardless of the numbers on the scales and the size bias on clothes. Only by accepting and loving your body, you can treat it as a friend - listen carefully, do not ignore requests, live in harmony with the mind and emotions.
Try different power systems, combine them, ruthlessly exclude those that cause stress and dislike. Over time, you will find the optimal balance between pleasure and satisfaction from eating. It does not matter how slowly you cultivate inside and outside. After all, the main thing is not how fast you are moving towards conscious nutrition, the main thing is do not stop.
